This mugwort amulet is cast in sterling silver from a mugwort leaf I personally foraged. The pendant is lightweight and measures slightly under 2″ tall, and comes on your choice of a black satin cord or a 20″ sterling silver chain.

Mugwort is one of the most famous witching herbs and is associated with the goddess Artemis along with wormwood through it’s genus Artemisia. Culpeper assigns this plant to Venus, however Paul Sedir in his Occult Botany places it under Mars. He states, “When worn as an amulet, it protects the bearer from the aiguillette and other malignant spells and charms. When hung as a talisman above the door of one’s home or buried under its threshold, it protects the home and keeps evil spirits and sorcerers from entering.”

In medieval Europe, mugwort was often used in charms and amulets for protection against evil spirits. It was also believed to guard against wild animals and malevolent forces in nature. Nicholas Culpeper wrote that mugwort was “good to protect against poisons and venomous creatures, and the noisome vapors of the night.” Mugwort also has a long history of use as a visionary and dream-enhancing plant. In the Middle Ages, people would place it under pillows to induce lucid dreams and receive prophetic visions. Dioscorides in his Materia Media physician, stated that mugwort had “divinatory properties, often used in rites to induce visionary dreams or bring clarity to the mind.”
