Capella is the brightest star in the constellation Auriga, the celestial charioteer. Its name, meaning “little she-goat,” refers to Amalthea, the goat who nourished the infant Zeus while he lay hidden from Cronus. The Curetes clashed their shields to muffle his cries, and Amalthea gave milk to the god in secret. After his triumph over the Titans, she was placed among the stars in gratitude.
In some accounts, she became the star Capella itself. In others, her broken horn became the cornucopia, a vessel said to offer unending nourishment and abundance. The myths surrounding her associate Capella with protection, favor, and sustenance granted in times of concealment and vulnerability. Her presence in the heavens was viewed as a sign of providence, linked to nurturing forces that support divine or heroic ascent.
Capella is one of the fifteen Behenian stars. Hermes on the 15 Fixed Stars states that its talisman “exalteth men to honors and bringeth them the favor of kings and nobles.” Agrippa repeats the same in Three Books of Occult Philosophy, writing that Capella “maketh him who carrieth it acceptable, honored, and exalted before kings and princes.” Ptolemy assigns Capella the nature of Mars and Mercury, a pairing connected to quickness, boldness, and sharpness of speech. In Brady’s Book of Fixed Stars, Bernadette Brady writes that Capella brings a “nurturing but free-spirited flavor.”
These talismans were created as Capella rose on the Ascendant on April 30, 2025. The Moon was waxing, fast in motion, unafflicted, and applying to conjoin both the benefic Jupiter and Capella on the Ascendant. Jupiter also applied to Capella. Mercury, the ruler of the ascendant is unafflicted. The election chart is available to view in the gallery.
The design takes the form of a goat’s head, honoring Capella’s mythic identity. During the electional window, sapphire stones were engraved with the sigil of Capella, suffumigated, and ritually enspirited with the intention of granting honor and favor. The stones were then set above horehound seed. Both sapphire and horehound seed are listed in Hermes on the 15 Fixed Stars as proper to this star.
Each piece was hand-sculpted in wax and cast into solid sterling silver. The talisman measures approximately 1.75” tall and comes on your choice of black satin cord or oxidized sterling silver chain, along with a copy of the devotional artwork above printed on card stock.
Only 5 are available.
May the daimon of these talismans grant you honor and favor.
