This one of a kind pendant was made in celebration of Saturnalia. Saturnalia traces its origins to early Roman agricultural practices. As one of the most popular Roman festivals, it celebrated the end of the agricultural season and the promise of renewed prosperity.  Saturn, credited with introducing agriculture and civilization, was venerated during the winter solstice to mark the transition from darkness to light. Initially a one-day event, Saturnalia expanded into a week-long celebration during the late Republic and early Imperial periods. This period of festivity was characterized by the inversion of societal norms and an emphasis on equality and communal joy. The pendant design features a scythe wrapped in vines as a tribute to Saturn’s rulership of agriculture with Io Saturnalia carved into the inside of the blade. It was hand sculpted in jeweler’s wax and cast in solid sterling silver. The pendant measures approximately 1.75″ tall and comes on your choice of a black satin cord or a 20″ sterling silver chain.
