Jupiter cazimi occurs when the Greater Benefic makes an exact conjunction with the Sun. In this configuration it enters the solar heart, a condition known in Latin as in corde Solis. This brief moment was called the Sun’s forge by Bonatti, where planetary virtue is tempered and made pure. It is a place of purification, and Ibn Ezra writes that a planet in this condition “indicates everything good in all affairs.” When Jupiter is both cazimi and exalted, its influence becomes precise, undiluted, and potent.
Agrippa writes that talismans of Jupiter “conduce to gain, riches, favor, and love, peace and concord,” and are used “to appease enemies, confirm honors, dignities, and counsels, and dissolve enchantments.” The Picatrix names him ruler of wisdom, philosophy, and the interpretation of dreams. His exaltation in Cancer joins the moist, life-giving nature of the sign with Jupiter’s expansive and benefic influence, heightening his power to generate growth, harmony, and abundance.
I am not normally one to overemphasize the rarity of an astrological election, as by their nature all elections capture a unique moment in time. However, I will make an exception in this case. Jupiter visits the sign of his exaltation for approximately one year every twelve years, and experiences a cazimi for approximately one hour per year. To capture a full chart election of this moment requires the cazimi to occur either on the ascendant or midheaven during the hour of Jupiter. I was very lucky to live in a location where this was possible.
The design of these talismans takes the form of a radiant circle, modeled on the solar glyph. Oak leaves rise along the lower half, tree of Jupiter and emblem of strength, endurance, and divine rulership. Flames crown the upper arc in solar emanation, marking the moment of union. Each talisman was hand-sculpted in wax and cast in solid sterling silver. Lapis lazuli, a stone corresponding to Jupiter and long associated with royalty, sits in the center at the heart of the solar glyph, set above frankincense and clove, materia corresponding to the Sun and Jupiter according to Agrippa.
The talismans were created on June 24th during the Jupiter cazimi in the sign of Jupiter’s exaltation in Cancer. The cazimi culminated on the midheaven while the Moon applied, within orb but outside the range of combustion. The Moon was fast and unafflicted. Although waning, this was mitigated by the presence of a benefic on the angles, per the Picatrix. While the cazimi was just separating from the midheaven at the time of entering Jupiter hour, the conjunction remained partile during the peak of the election. The ruler of the ascendant Venus was dignified by triplicity and domicile in Taurus. During the electional window, the lapis stones were engraved with the sigil of Jupiter and ritually suffumigated and enspirited with the intention of bestowing wealth, wisdom, and good fortune. The chart is available to view in the gallery.
Each talisman measures approximately 1.5 inches tall and comes on your choice of black satin cord or oxidized sterling silver chain, along with a copy of the devotional artwork above printed on card stock. Only 9 were made.
May the daimon of these talismans grant you wisdom, wealth, and good fortune.
