And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars -Revelation 12:1

Woman Clothed with the Sun, Rothchild Canticles

The Woman Clothed with the Sun, mulier amicta sole, is a visionary figure whose image has been interpreted across centuries as the Virgin Mary, the collective Church, the divine feminine, Sophia, the Shekhinah, and the soul in a state of exaltation. Her presence blends celestial power with earthly struggle: radiant and crowned, she labors in pain, pursued by the dragon of the apocalypse. Within Catholic tradition, she is closely linked to Marian devotion, particularly in depictions of the Immaculate Conception and the Virgin of Guadalupe. Both reflect the apocalyptic woman in visual form, often portraying her crowned with stars, wrapped in solar radiance, and standing on a crescent moon. Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, holds a singular role as protector, intercessor, and political symbol, especially in postcolonial contexts. Her presence has become inseparable from the history of conquest, survival, and cultural resistance. To call upon her is to engage a lineage of radiance born through struggle. In this light, the Woman Clothed with the Sun may be understood as a figure who bears witness to crisis while embodying sovereignty and continuity amid destruction.

These talismans continue my exploration of apocalyptic imagery as a source of strength for the present moment, a thread first taken up in The Wormwood Star. Where that work honored the poisoned waters and bitterness of revelation, this piece turns toward radiance and resilience in the face of collapse. The Woman Clothed with the Sun here is not a figure of doom, but one of protection and unveiled power.

The election for these talismans took place on April 2, 2025, during the hour of the Sun. The Sun culminated on the midheaven and was dignified by exaltation, triplicity, and face. The Moon, ruler of the ascendant, was waxing, fast in motion, and applied to a sextile with the Sun and a conjunction with the benefic Jupiter. The Sun also applied to a sextile with Jupiter. The chart is available to view in the gallery. During the electional window, sunstone cabochons were engraved with the symbol of the Sun and suffumigated with frankincense. They were ritually enspirited with the intention of granting success and courage and consecrated using the Helios consecration from the Greek Magical Papyri (PGM IV.1596–1715).

Each piece was hand-sculpted in wax and cast into solid sterling silver. The face of the piece was molded from my personal statue of the Virgin Mary, which has sat on my altar for many years. A round sunstone is set at the center, above marigold placed to honor Guadalupe, along with frankincense and genuine 24k gold flake. The talisman measures approximately 2 inches tall and comes on your choice of black satin cord or oxidized sterling silver chain, along with a copy of the devotional artwork above printed on card stock. Only 9 are available.
